아프리카연합군은 다르푸르 지역에서의 평화유지 임무를 유엔에 이양할 권리가 없다고 수단 정부가 밝혔습니다.
자말 이브라힘 수단 외무부 대변인은 4일 다르푸르 지역의 안전을 확보할 권리는 수단 정부에만 있다며 이같이 말했습니다.
유엔 안전보장이사회는 지난달 31일 다르푸르에 2만여명의 병력을 배치하도록 승인했지만 수단 정부는 이를 침략에 비유하면서 강하게 반대하고 있습니다. 유엔은 결의안에서 다르푸르 지역에서 만연하는 폭력사태를 중단하지 못한 아프리카연합군 병력을 유엔 평화유지군으로 대체하도록 했습니다.
한편 수단 정부는 아프리카연합군에 대해 임무가 만료되는 9월30일 떠날 것을 요구했습니다. 그러나 수단 대통령 보좌관인 무스타파 오스만 이스마일씨는 아프리카연합군의 임무연장에 반대하지 않는다고 말한 것으로 수단 관영 통신이 보도했습니다.

Sudan says the African Union has no right to transfer its peacekeeping mission in Darfur to United Nations control.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Jamal Ibrahim said today (Monday) that the right to secure the troubled Darfur region rests only with the Sudanese government.
On Thursday, the U.N. Security Council approved the deployment of more than 20-thousand troops to Darfur. Sudan's government fiercely opposes the U.N. plan, likening it to an invasion.
The U.N. plan calls for the world body to absorb an African Union force that has been unable to stop rampant violence in Darfur.
Sunday, Sudan called for the A.U. troops to leave Darfur when their mandate expires September 30th. But today (Monday), Sudan's official news agency quotes a presidential adviser (Mustafa Osman Ismail) as saying the government has no problem with the A.U. force if its mandate is extended.
