이란의 마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 대통령은 이란은 협박에 굴복해 핵 기술의 권리를 포기하지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다. 아흐마디네자드 대통령은 유엔안전보장이사회가 이란에게 우라늄 농축 중단을 요구하며 그렇지 않을 경우 제재에 직면할 수 있다고 못박은 31일 마감시한을 맞아 이같은 거부의사를 밝혔습니다.
아흐마디네자드 대통령은 이날 이란 북서부의 한 지역에서 행한 연설에서 유엔안보리의 마감시한을 직접 언급하지 않은 채 이란은 자국의 권리에 대한 침해를 수용할 수 없다고 말했습니다.
미국 국무부의 니콜라스 번스 정무 차관은 이란에 대한 제재안을 논의하기 위해 다음주 유럽에서 열릴 유엔 안보리 상임이사국과 독일 등 6개국들간의 회의에 참석할 예정입니다.
미국 관리들은 이란이 수주일안에 적어도 첫번째 제재를 받게될 것으로 자신하고 있습니다. 한편 국제 원자력 기구 IAEA는 31일 이란의 핵활동에 대해 유엔 안보리에 보고서를 제출할 예정입니다.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his nation will not back down in the face of intimidation and give up its right to nuclear technology.
Mr. Ahmadinejad made the remark today (Thursday) -- the day the U.N. Security Council has set as a deadline for Iran to stop uranium enrichment or face possible sanctions.
Speaking in northwestern Iran (in Orumiyeh), Mr. Ahmadinejad did not directly mention the deadline, but said Tehran will not accept what he called "bullying, invasion or a violation of its rights."
The U.S. State Department's most senior career diplomat, (Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs) Nicholas Burns, will join counterparts from the other permanent U.N. Security Council members and Germany at talks about sanctions on Iran early next week in Europe.
U.S. officials say they are confident that at least a first set of penalties against Iran will be approved within weeks.
Later today, the U.N. nuclear agency is to submit its report on Iran's nuclear activities to the Security Council.
