이란은 이란이 건설중인 핵시설이 전기생산을 위한 것이라고 거듭 주장하고 있으나 서방 국가들은 이란 핵활동이 핵무기 제조를 위한 것이라는 우려를 표명해 왔습니다. 이란은 이란의 우라늄 농축활동을 중지하라는 유엔 안전보장 이사회의 결의에 따른 마감일을 마감일을 닷새 앞두고 중수 생산공장을 준공했습니다.

The Iranian leader made the comments today (Saturday) as he inaugurated a new phase of a nuclear facility under construction near Arak, 200 kilometers southwest of Tehran.
The heavy water production plant that opened today is part of the nuclear facility scheduled to be completed in 2009.
Iran says the nuclear facility is for generating electricity, but Western nations have expressed fear Tehran's nuclear activities are for building atomic weapons.
Mr. Ahmadinejad opened the new plant just days ahead of the August 31st deadline by the U.N. Security Council mandating Tehran stop its uranium enrichment activities, or risk sanctions.
