President Bush says security in the United States depends on democracy taking hold in the Middle East.
He said during his weekly radio address today (Saturday) that the conflict in Lebanon is part of a broader struggle between freedom and terror. He also said it is no coincidence that such violent struggles are taking place in Lebanon and Iraq, both places where people are struggling to build free societies.
Mr. Bush said terrorists and their sponsors realize these countries are at a pivotal point, and he vowed the United States will continue to work to support young democracies across the Middle East.
But in the Democrats' response, Congressional candidate Joe Sestak said the current policy in Iraq is fostering a culture of dependence. He called for a phased redeployment of forces to better guard U.S. security worldwide.
