쿠바 국영 텔레비전 방송은 피델 카스트로가 장출혈 수술을 받기 위해 지난 7월 31일 자신의 권력을 동생인 라울에게 이양한 이후 처음으로 공개석상에 나타난 라울의 모습을 방영했습니다.
앞서 13일 쿠바의 한 신문은 피델 카스트로가 수술을 받은 후 처음으로 그의 사진을 공개했습니다. 이 사진은 카스트로가 자택에서 휴식을 취하면서 전화 통화를 하고 있는 모습을 담고 있습니다.
이 신문은 또한 올해 80세인 카스트로가 건강을 위해 끝까지 싸울 것이라고 다짐하는 내용의 메시지도 공개했습니다.
카스트로는 회복 기간이 다소 길어질 수도 있고 일부 위험에 처할 수도 있다고 말하면서 쿠바 국민들에게 불운의 소식을 받아들일 태세를 갖추라고 경고했습니다.
카스트로가 정권을 이양한 것은 47년 만에 처음있는 일입니다.

Acting Cuban President Raul Castro has welcomed Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to Havana for a birthday celebration for Fidel Castro.
Cuban state television showed Raul (today/Sunday) in his first public appearance since older brother Fidel relinquished power to him July 31st to undergo surgery for intestinal bleeding.
Earlier Sunday, a Cuban newspaper (Juventud Rebelde) published the first photographs of Fidel Castro since his surgery. The pictures showed him resting at home and talking on the telephone.
The newspaper also issued a message from the 80-year-old leader, in which he vowed to fight for his health.
Mr. Castro added that the recovery from his illness may take some time and pose serious risks. He warned the Cuban people to ready for "adverse news."
It is the first time Fidel Castro has not been in control since taking power in Cuba 47 years ago.
