인도 서부 구자라트 주 당국은 탄산 음료들에서 높은 수준의 살충제가 검출됐다는 조사 결과가 나온 뒤 공립학교들과 대학들에서 이들 탄산음료의 판매를 금지시켰습니다.
현지 언론들은 구자라트 교육부 장관의 말을 인용해 주 정부가 7일부터 400개 교육시설 모두에서 펩시 콜라와 코카 콜라 그밖의 다른 탄산 음료수의 판매를 중단시키기로 결정했다고 보도했습니다.
구자라트 주는 뉴델리에 본부를 둔 과학환경센터가 인도에서 판매되는 코카콜라와 펩시 콜라에서 살충제 흔적들이 발견됐다고 밝힌 뒤에 판매 금지 조치가 내려진 두번째 주입니다.
앞서 4일 서부 라자스탄 주는 처음으로 학교 구내에서 이들 탄산 음료 판매를 중단시킨 바 있습니다.
한편 미국의 거대 탄산음료 생산 업체인 펩시콜라와 코카콜라는 인도에서 생산되는 자사 탄산 음료들은 국제 및 국내의 엄격한 규정들을 따르고 있다고 말하면서 그 같은 연구 결과를 일축했습니다.

India's western state of Gujarat has banned the sale of soft drinks at government-run schools and colleges after a study showed they contained high levels of pesticides.
Local media quote Gujarat education minister (Anandiben Patel) as saying the state government decided to stop sale of Pepsi Cola, Coca-Cola and other soft drinks in all 400 education facilities starting Monday.
Gujarat is the second state to impose such ban after the New Delhi-based Center for Science and Environment said it found traces of pesticides in locally-bottled products of both Coke and Pepsi.
On Friday, the western state of Rajasthan banned the sale of soft drinks on school premises.
The U.S. giants PepsiCo and Coca-Cola rejected the study, saying the soft drinks manufactured in India comply with stringent international and national standards.
