North Korea has called South Korea's launching of a satellite that can spy on the communist country a "grave provocative act."
The North's official state media (Korea Central News Agency) quoted a spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland as saying last Friday's launch of the Arirang-Two satellite is straining the situation on the Korean peninsula.
The satellite, which was launched in Russia, is equipped with a high-resolution camera that will help South Korea update geographical changes and assist in search of natural resources.
North Korea's KCNA news agency quotes the spokesman as saying the situation compels the North to build up what it called its "invincible war deterrent," referring to Pyongyang's military-first policy.
