미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관을 포함해 각국 외교관들은 26일, 로마에서 회담했습니다. 라이스 국무장관은 폭력사태가 종식되어야 하지만 그 정전은 지속가능한 것이어야 한다는 점에 대표들은 의견을 같이했다고 말했습니다. 라이스장관은 이번회의에서 레바논이 무장 민병대들로 부터 자유로와지고 또 주권국이 되어야 한다는 대표들의 일치된 결의가 되풀이 강조되었다고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관과 코피 아난 유엔 사무총장은, 중동사태 해결방안에는 주요 헤즈볼라 지원국인 시리아와 이란이 포함돼야한다고 말했습니다.

Diplomats from several countries have agreed to work toward a ceasefire to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.
But they do not have a specific plan to stop the violence.
The diplomats, including U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, met today in Rome. She said any ceasefire must be sustainable and that Lebanon must be sovereign and free of militias.
Rice and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan also said the solution must involve Syria and Iran. They are key backers of Hezbollah.
Mr. Annan called for a multinational force to help the Lebanese government assert its authority. Rice said world powers will soon discuss establishing a force to deploy in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora says progress was made at the talks. He says there is a lot to be done in the near future in order to reach a ceasefire and allow the Lebanese government to exert its authority across the country.
