Japan's Kyodo news service reports that North Korea has summoned its ambassadors home for an emergency meeting.
Kyodo quotes diplomatic sources today (Thursday) who say the envoys were summoned to Pyongyang earlier this week for a rare gathering. The last such meeting is believed to have occurred in 2001.
The meeting comes after the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution to impose weapons-related sanctions on North Korea in response to North Korean missile tests.
Earlier today, South Korean Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok warned the international community that it is inappropriate to try to resolve the matter only through pressure and sanctions. He said excessive sanctions alone will not work.
