미국 국회 상원의원들은 2일 대법원이 지난 주 테러 용의자들을 군사 법정에서 다루려는 부쉬 대통령의 계획에 대해 위법이라고 판시하자 곧바로 이 문제를 논의하기 위해 2일 소집됐습니다.
알렌 스펙터 공화당 상원의원은 CBS-TV 방송에 출연해 앞으로 몇 주 안에 상원 법사위원회와 군사위원회에서 이 문제에 관한 청문회가 열릴 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.
칼 레빈 민주당 상원 의원은 대법원의 그 같은 결정은 부쉬 대통령이 자신의 권한을 넘어섰음을 보여준 것이라고 말했습니다.
부쉬 대통령은 국회가 적 전투원들을 기소하는데 군사 위원회를 이용할 자신의 계획을 합법화시킬 방안이 있을 수도 있다고 말해왔습니다.
대법원은 또한 판결문에서 미국법과 전시 포로에 관한 제네바 협약이 관타나모 수감자들에게도 적용돼야 한다고 판시했습니다.

U.S. lawmakers say they will work with the White House to draft legislation allowing for trials of terrorist suspects detained by the U.S. military at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Senators from both the Republican and Democratic parties called today (Sunday) for discussions soon, after the Supreme Court last week rejected President Bush's plan for conducting military trials.
Senator Arlen Specter of the president's Republican Party told CBS television that hearings on the issue are scheduled for the Senate judiciary and armed services committees in coming weeks.
Senator Carl Levin of the opposition Democratic Party said the Supreme Court's ruling showed that the president overstepped his authority.
Mr. Bush has said there may be a way to have Congress legalize his plan for using military commissions to prosecute enemy combatants.
The Supreme Court ruling also stated that U.S. law and the Geneva Conventions must apply to Guantanamo detainees.
