President Bush says he will spend the United States' Independence Day holiday with soldiers and their families at a U.S. military base.
In his weekly radio address today (Saturday) Mr. Bush said he will spend Tuesday at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (in the southeastern United States). He said he plans to thank U.S. troops personally for their service to freedom's cause.
In the Democrats' weekly radio address, U.S. Senate candidate Jim Webb said it will take a change of national leadership to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq. He said the U.S. commitment there must end in order for the military to focus on the war on terror.
July 4th is the day that the U.S. founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It announced the states' intention to separate from colonial power Great Britain.
