이탈리아에서 실비오 베를루스코니 전 총리 정부가 승인했던 획기적인 헌법 개정안에 관한 국민투표가 이틀일정으로 시작됐습니다.
개헌안은 각료 임명 및 해임, 내각 해산을 허용하는 등 총리의 권한을 대폭 확대하는 내용이 포함되어 있습니다. 개헌안은 또 이탈리아 지방 정부들에게 보건과 교육분야등에 보다 많은 권한을 부여하고 있습니다.
베를루스 코니 전 총리가 이끄는 이탈리아 중도 우파 야당은 정치적 안정이 증대될 것이라며 국민들에게 개헌안 지지를 촉구하고 있습니다.
지난 4월 전국 총선거에서 승리한 이탈리아 중도 좌파 로마노 프로디 총리는 국민들에게 이를 거부할 것을 호소하고 있습니다.

Italians have begun voting (Sunday) in a two-day referendum on sweeping constitutional reforms approved by the government of former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.
The proposed changes include strengthening the powers of the prime minister by allowing him or her to appoint and remove Cabinet members and dissolve parliament. Currently, such decisions must be approved by the president.
The referendum would also give more power to Italy's regional governments in areas such as health and education.
Italy's center-right opposition, led by Mr. Berlusconi, is urging people to support the reforms, saying they will increase political stability.
