U.S. officials say they have arrested seven people suspected of planning terrorist attacks against sites in the United States, including the landmark Sears Tower in Chicago.
Authorities announced the arrests Thursday. They said the seven were detained in Miami, Florida.
FBI and Justice Department officials are to provide further details in news conferences today (Friday).
A man who said he was a member of the group the suspects belonged to told CNN television that the seven are not terrorists. He said their group is called the "Seas of David" and has so-called "soldiers" in Chicago.
Officials say the seven were plotting attacks against other sites, including the FBI office in Miami. Most of the suspects are American, and one is said to be Haitian. They are to appear in court today (Friday).
U.S. authorities say the suspects did not pose an immediate threat.
