부쉬 대통령은 앞서 13일 이라크를 전격방문한 자리에서 이라크의 새 정부가 자체 방위 능력을 갖출때까지 이라크를 지원할 것이라고 다짐했습니다. 부쉬 대통령은 누리 알 말리키 총리에게 이라크의 미래가 그의 손에 달려있으며 미국은 그의 성공을 도울것이라고 말했습니다.

President Bush says he was "inspired" to be able to visit the capital of a free and democratic Iraq.
Mr. Bush made the comment today (Wednesday) at the White House, one day after making a surprise visit to Baghdad.
He also said it was a pleasure to meet face-to-face with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Tuesday, in Baghdad, President Bush pledged to stand by Iraq's new government until it is capable of defending itself.
He told Mr. al-Maliki the future of country is in his hands, and that the United States will help him succeed. The Iraqi prime minister said his government is determined to succeed and will defeat terrorism with the help of the United States.
Most Iraqi political leaders called the president's visit a significant gesture of support for the new national unity government. Supporters of radical Shi'ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr staged a demonstration in Baghdad today (Wednesday) to protest Mr. Bush's visit.
