이라크의 누리 알-말리키 총리가 화해와 대화 증진을 위해 2,500명의 수감자들을 석방하겠다고 약속한 지 몇 시간만에, 이라크 당국은 나라전역의 교도소에서 거의 600명의 수감자들을 석방했습니다.
이날 아침 일찍 출소자들을 태운 버스들이 바그다드의 중앙버스정류장에 도착하기 시작했습니다. 이번에 석방된 사람들의 대부분은 이라크의 소수, 회교 수니파 아랍계들입니다.
당국은 이번에 석방된 사람들이 직접 폭력에 가담하지 않았거나 명백한 증거가 없는 사람들, 또는 실수로 체포된 자들이라고 밝혔습니다.
7일 이라크 전역에서 저항분자들이 벌인 공격으로 적어도 10명이 사망했습니다. 사망자에는 6명의 경찰관들과 1명의 수니 아랍계 성직자가 들어있습니다.
지난 5일 바그다드 중부지역에서 앞서 납치됐던 50명 가운데 13명이 발견됐다고 이라크 경찰이 밝혔습니다.

Iraqi authorities have freed nearly 600 prisoners after Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki promised to release 25-hundred detainees to foster "reconciliation and national dialogue."
Buses packed with prisoners arrived at Baghdad's central bus station early today (Wednesday). Most of the released are members of Iraq's minority Sunni Arab community. Authorities say they were not involved in violent crimes or had been detained by mistake.
Insurgents carried out more attacks across Iraq today (Wednesday), killing at least 10 people. The dead included six police officers and a Sunni Arab cleric.
Police also say they found alive at least 13 of the 50 men who were kidnapped in Baghdad on Monday. Police say some of them appear to have been tortured. There was no immediate word on the fate of the other kidnap victims or why they were taken.
