지난 3월 부쉬 대통령이 뉴 델리를 방문, 역사적인 민간 핵 협정에 서명한 이후 두 나라의 정치 관계도 개선됐습니다.
이 협정은 인도가 22개 핵 시설중 14개를 국제원자력 기구의 사찰을 받도록 개방하도록 하며, 이로써 인도는 핵 공급국가 그룹으로부터 핵 발전소와 연료를 받을수 있도록 하고 있습니다. 이 협정은 미국 의회의 승인을 거쳐야 정식 발효됩니다.

Indian officials say Washington's top military official, Marine General Peter Pace, met in New Delhi today (Monday) with heads of India's armed forces.
General Pace, who is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arrived Sunday for a three-day visit aimed at closer strategic ties.
Military ties between the two countries have warmed considerably in recent years.
Political relations have also improved since the countries signed a landmark civilian nuclear deal during a visit by President Bush to New Delhi in March.
Under the deal, India will open 14 of its 22 nuclear facilities to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency, which would allow India to acquire nuclear power plants and fuel from the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
The deal awaits approval by the U.S. Congress.
