세계보건기구 (WHO)는 세계 각국의 조류독감과 에이즈 예방 노력을 지원하기 위한 규정의 이행을 가속화하기로 했습니다.
이 기구는 스위스 제네바에서 열린 연례회의 마지막 날인 27일 이같이 결정했습니다.
이들 규정은 국제사회가 우려할 만한 질병의 잠재적 발병 가능성에 대해 신속히 통보하고 각국의 질병 대처에 대한 세계보건기구의 지원 역량을 증대하게 될 것이라고 보건기구 대변인이 밝혔습니다.
이 규정은 애초 1년 뒤에 시행될 예정이었지만 조류독감 발발 우려 때문에 세계보건기구가 즉각적인 행동에 나서게 됐습니다.

The World Health Assembly has agreed to speed up implementation of regulations designed to help nations fight possible pandemics of avian influenza and HIV/AIDS.
The move came at the close of the assembly's annual meeting in Geneva today (Saturday).
A World Health Organization spokesman says the regulations will speed up notification of potential outbreaks of international concern and increase the ability of the WHO to support countries as they battle disease.
The regulations were due to take effect a year from now, but concern over a possible bird flu outbreak prompted the assembly to take immediate action.
