영국과 네덜란드 계 석유회사인 쉘은 환경 피해에 대한 배상금으로 15억 달러를 납부하라고 나이지리아 법원이 명령한 마감 시한을 준수하지 않을 것으로 보입니다 .
나이지리아의 연방 고등 법원은 지난 19일, 쉘 사에게 22일 낮까지 배상금을 나이지리아 중앙 은행에 예치하라고 명령했습니다. 하지만 쉘의 대변인은 쉘 사는 법원 판결에 항소하는 동안 법원의 명령을 따르지 않을 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

The Shell oil company appears set to defy a Nigerian court-ordered deadline to pay one-point-five billion dollars in environmental compensation damages.
On Friday, a federal high court ordered Shell to deposit the money with the Central Bank of Nigeria by mid-day today (Monday).
But Shell spokesmen say the company will not comply with the order while it appeals the ruling.
The ruling stems from a Nigerian parliamentary resolution that said Shell should compensate ethnic Ijaw communities in Nigeria's Bayelsa state.
The communities accuse Shell of allowing oil spills that have polluted waters and killed vegetation and fish. Shell says most of the spills are caused by vandals who tap into oil pipelines.
