The 32-year-old father and son are part of a family in northern Sumatra that has lost at least six members to avian-influenza virus.
Indonesian health authorities say the cluster of infections has raised concerns that the virus may have mutated and become more dangerous to humans. Authorities in the island nation say they cannot confirm there has been any human-to-human transmission of the virus, but neither can they rule out that possibility.
Local reports about bird-flu outbreaks and deaths are not considered definitive until they are confirmed by the World Health Organization.
