캄보디아는 20일 연례 `분노의 날'을 맞아 옛 크메르 루즈 정권의 잔혹한 지도자들을 유엔이 지원하는 신속한 재판을 통해 기소할 것을 촉구했습니다.
크메르 루즈의 주요 처형장소였던 초웅 에크에는 이날 1천여명의 캄보디아인들이 모였습니다. 초웅 에크는 수많은 캄보디아인들이 집단학살된 이른바 `킬링 필드'의 한 곳으로 잘 알려져 있습니다.
캄보디아에서는 지난 1975년에서 1979년 사이 폴 포트가 정권을 장악한 시기에 2백여만명이 기아와 중노동, 처형 등으로 인해 사망했습니다. 캄보디아의 검사들은 오는 7월까지는 크메르 루즈 정권과 연계된 전범들을 기소하기 시작할 것이라고 말했습니다.

Cambodia is marking its annual "Day of Anger" with calls for a speedy U.N.-assisted trial to prosecute former leaders of the brutal Khmer Rouge regime. Around one-thousand Cambodians gathered today (Saturday) at Choeung Ek, one of the Khmer Rouge's main execution sites.
The site is known as one of the regimes "killing fields," where thousands of men, women and children were massacred. As many as two million Cambodians died from starvation, overwork and execution from 1975 to 1979 when the regime, led by Pol Pot, controlled the country.
Prosecutors in Cambodia say they expect to begin indicting alleged war criminals in connection with the Khmer Rouge regime by July. Thirty judges have been approved for the special U.N.- assisted tribunal Pol Pot died in 1998, and no member of his brutal regime has been tried for crimes against humanity.
