Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has scorned a potential European offer of incentives for Tehran to give up uranium enrichment.
He told a gathering in central Iran (the town of Arak) today (Wednesday) the reported incentives would be like offering a child nuts and chocolates in exchange for gold.
The Iranian president said again that Iran might be compelled to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty if the West insists that Tehran end its pursuit of nuclear technology.
Diplomats said Tuesday that Britain, France and Germany and the European Union are drafting a set of incentives that might include an explicit promise of Western help in building a light-water reactor in Iran.
Western powers suspect Iran is enriching uranium to make nuclear weapons -- a charge Tehran denies.
