A new public-opinion survey in this country shows President Bush's job-approval ratings continue to fall, and are now at the lowest level since he took office five years ago.
Data released today (Wednesday) by The New York Times and CBS News indicate only 31 percent of Americans approve of the job Mr. Bush is doing. Over the past 50 years, only former presidents Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter ever had lower approval ratings.
The survey finds Americans dissatisfied about the president's handling of a range of issues, including the war in Iraq, rising fuel prices and the aftermath of last year's Hurricane Katrina (in New Orleans and other parts of the Gulf Coast).
Overall, seven out of 10 people who took part in the poll said they think the country is going in the wrong direction.
