한국정부는 일본과의 영유권 분쟁의 대상이 되고 있는 독도를 체계적으로 관리하기 위한 5개년 사업계획을 발표했습니다.
한국 해양수산부는 4일, 오는 2010년까지 3천6백만 달러의 예산을 투입해 독도주변해역의 생태계와 자연환경 보전, 이 지역 해양수산자원의 합리적 이용, 독도안 시설 등의 합리적 관리와 운용 등 다섯개 분야 과제를 선정하고 이를 추진해나갈 계획이라고 발표했습니다.
한편, 4일 한국본토와 독도사이에 상업용 전화선이 개통됐습니다. 한국통신은 올해 초 독도로 이주한 부부의 자택에 전화선을 개설했다고 밝혔습니다.

South Korea has unveiled a new five-year plan to explore and develop natural resources around a disputed group of islands in the Sea of Japan. The island chain is claimed by both South Korea and Japan.
South Korea's ministry of maritime affairs and fisheries said today (Thursday) the more than 36-million dollar project is aimed at preserving the small islands.
