미군 성명은 28일 이라크 디얄라 성 바쿠바 지역에서의 이번 전투로 이라크 병사 7명과 민간인 2명도 목숨을 잃었다고 말했습니다. 이밖에도 이라크 병사 8명과 경찰관 4명이 다쳤습니다.
이 전투는 100여명의 중무장 저항 분자들이 바쿠바 지역내 경찰서 한 군데와 보안 검문소 5곳 그리고 이라크 군 본부를 공격했을 때인 지난 27일 시작됐습니다.
별도의 사태 발전으로 바그다드 북쪽에서 도로변 폭탄 폭발로 미군 병사 한명이 사망했습니다.
한편 이라크의 누리 알-말리키 총리 내정자는 그 나라 시아파 최고 성직자인 아야톨라 알리 알-시스타니로부터 과격분자들의 무장 해제 노력에 대한 지지를 받아낸 것이 분명해 보입니다.

The U.S. military says Iraqi troops have killed 21 insurgents and captured 43 others in response to a series of attacks on military and police checkpoints northeast of Baghdad.
A military statement today (Friday) says seven Iraqi soldiers and two civilians also were killed in the fighting in the Baquba region of Diyala province. Eight soldiers and four policemen were wounded.
The fighting began late Thursday when more than 100 heavily armed militants attacked a police station, five security checkpoints and an Iraqi army headquarters in the area.
Separately, one U.S. soldier was killed (Thursday) in a roadside bomb blast north of Baghdad.
On the political front, Iraq's Prime Minister-designate Nouri al-Maliki has apparently won the backing of the country's top Shi'ite cleric in efforts to dismantle militias.
Mr. al-Maliki met with Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Najaf Thursday. During the talks, the ayatollah said weapons should only be in the hands of government security forces.
