버냉키 의장은 27일, 미 의회에서 증언하는 가운데 미국의 경제 금년 하반기 성장률이 지속성 있는 적정수준을 나타낼 것이라고 예측하고 그러나 에너지 가격상승은 연방준비제도 이사회로 하여금 성장지원을 위해 기본금리를 계속해서 인상하도록 만들른지도 모른다고 말했습니다.
지난 달 연방준비제도 이사회의 금리 인상에 따라 기본금리가 4.75퍼센로 올라 5년래 최고수준에 있습니다.

U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has told U.S. lawmakers that rising energy prices could hurt America's strong economy and more interest-rate hikes may be needed to prevent inflation.
Bernanke told Congress today (Thursday) he expects the U.S. economy growth to moderate later this year to what he called a more sustainable pace. But he said rising energy prices may force the Fed to continue raising the interest rate to support growth.
The federal reserve has steadily raised the key interest rate over the last two years. Last month's increase brought the interest rate to four-point-75 percent, its highest level in about five years.
Raising interest rates increase the cost of borrowing money to expand businesses.
Some analysts predict the Fed will raise interest rates one or two more times.
