남한 당국자들은, 이들 탈북자들이 30대의 이모씨 부부와 그 두 자녀, 그리고 이 가족의 친구 한명이라고 밝혔습니다.
남한의 연합 통신은, 이들이 지난 17일 북한 동부의 통천항을 떠났으며, 18일 저녁 남한 해상에서 남한 해안 경비대에 의해 발견됐다고 보도했습니다.

A group of five North Koreans has defected to South Korea by sailing across the heavily-guarded inter-Korean sea border on board a small barge.
South Korean officials say the five include a couple in their 30s, their two children (aged two and eight) and a friend of the family.
The Yonhap news agency says the group departed Friday from the eastern port of Tongchon in North Korea, and were spotted Saturday night by the South Korean coast guard on the other side of the sea border.
A South Korean patrol boat towed the North Koreans to the port of Goseong, where they expressed a desire to defect. Yonhap says the father (surnamed Lee) told authorities he decided to leave the North after listening to radio broadcasts about the better quality of life in the South.
