일본 후생 노동성은 비육우에서 처음으로 광우병 감염을 확인했다고 밝혔습니다. 후생 노동성 관리들은 17일 남부 나가사키현에서 사육된 14년생 비육우 암소가 광우병에 걸린것으로 확인했다고 말했습니다. 관리들은 이 소를 도살 처리했다고 덧붙였습니다.
일본은 앞서 젖소에서 총 23건의 광우병을 확인했습니다. 일본 당국은 지난 2월 북부 훗가이도섬의 한 목장에서 사육중이던 소가 광우병에 감염된것으로 확인한 후 이 목장에서 사육중이던 45마리의 소를 도살 처리했습니다.
일본내 광우병 확인은 지난 1월 일본이 광우병 우려로 미국산 쇠고기 금지 조치를 다시 내리는 등 미국과 갈등을 빚고 있는 가운데 발생했습니다.

Japan's Health Ministry has confirmed the country's first case of mad cow disease in cattle specifically raised to provide meat.
Authorities say a 14-year-old female breeding cow in the southern prefecture of Nagasaki was confirmed to have been infected with the disease. Officials say the cow has been destroyed.
Japan had previously confirmed 23 cases of the disease among dairy cows. In February, 45 cows at a farm on the northern island of Hokkaido were destroyed after authorities confirmed a cow on the farm was infected.
The new development comes amid the latest dispute over Tokyo's ban on American beef imports. Japan reinstated restrictions on the import of American beef in January, one month after Japan lifted its ban on U.S. beef. Imports were stopped again after beef arrived containing prohibited spinal bones.
