콘돌리자 라이스 미 국무장관은 버마 군사 정부에 대해 인권을 존중하도록 압력을 가하고 있는 인도네시아정부의 노력을 칭송했습니다.
라이스 장관은, 14일 자카르타에서 후산 위라주다 인도네시아 외무장관과 버마의 상황에 관해 논의했습니다. 라이스 장관은 미국은 버마 국민들의 탄압을 보고 눈먼 장님이 될수는 없다고 말했습니다.
앞서 라이스 장관은 인도네시아 수도에 있는 회교도 학교를 방문함으로써 이틀간의 인도네시아 방문 일정을 시작했습니다. 라이스 장관은 학교를 방문한 동안, 미국의 국기인 성조기와 인도네시아 국기를 흔들며 반기는 여학생들을 만났습니다.
라이스 장관은, 수실로 밤방 유도요노 대통령과 오늘 14일 중으로 회담을 갖고 테러와의 전쟁에 대한 협력 강화 문제등을 논의할 예정입니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has praised Indonesia for trying to pressure Burma's military leaders to respect human rights. Rice discussed the situation in Burma with her Indonesian counterpart Hassan Wirajuda today (Tuesday) in Jakarta.
She says the United States "cannot turn a blind eye" to the oppression of the Burmese people.
Earlier, Rice began her two-day trip to Indonesia by visiting an Islamic school in the capital, where she met with schoolgirls who greeted her with by waving Indonesian and U.S. flags.
Rice is to meet with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono later today for talks expected to focus on boosting cooperation in the fight against terrorism. She will deliver a speech on democracy Wednesday before flying to Australia.
