하워드 총리는 20일, 호주의 주류사회가 회교도 극단주의 이민자 집단을 흡수하는데 처음으로 실패하고 있다고 지적하면서 이같이 경고했습니다.
하워드 총리는 또 비회교도와 관계에 관한 극단주의 회교도들의 시각과 여성들에 대우 문제가 호주의 개방적인 이민정책에 대한 시험이 되고 있다고 지적했습니다.
호주이슬람위원회연맹은 하워드 총리의 이 같은 발언이30만 명의 회교도 이민자들이 있는 호주에서 선동적인 발언이라고 규탄했습니다.

Australia's prime minister, John Howard, says the country is facing a new challenge from a small section of what he called "extremist" Muslim immigrants.
Mr. Howard expressed concern (today/Monday) that Australia's mainstream for the first time has failed to absorb these immigrant communities.
He added that extremist Muslim views about relations with non-Muslims and treatment of women are testing the nation's liberal immigration policy.
The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils condemned the remarks as inflammatory in a nation with some 300-thousand Muslims.
