파키스탄 경찰이 수도 이슬라마바드에서 이슬람의 선지자 모하메트에 대한 만평에 항의하는 시위대와 충돌했습니다.
경찰은 아브파라 광장에 모여 경찰에게 돌을 던지는 시위대를 향해 최루가스를 발사하고 곤봉으로 때렸다고 목격자들은 전했습니다.
파키스탄 당국이 모하메트 만평에 항의하는 이슬람 정당들의 시위를 금지한 직후 수도 이슬라마바드에는 수천여명의 보안대 병력이 배치됐습니다. 그러나 여섯 개 이슬람 정당 연대는 시위금지에도 불구하고 시위를 계속할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
이에 앞서 경찰은 일부 국회의원을 체포하고 과격한 이슬람 지도자들을 가택연금시켰으며, 수백여명의 시위 지지자들을 구금했습니다. 파키스탄에서는 지난주 만평에 항의하는 시위 도중 최소한 5명이 사망했습니다.

Pakistani police have clashed with demonstators in the capital, Islamabad, angry at controversial cartoons portraying the Prophet Muhammad.
Witnesses say police used tear gas and charged the crowd with batons as the protesters gathered near the city's Aabpara market and pelted police with stones.
Thousands of security troops had deployed throughout the capital, sealing the city after authorities banned a protest rally by Islamist parties. An alliance of six Islamist parties (Majlis-i-Amal) had vowed to defy the ban.
Pakistani police also arrested several lawmakers, put some radical Islamic leaders under house arrest and detained hundreds of their supporters.
At least five people have been killed in violent protests in Pakistan in the past week.
