French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy says Iran's nuclear program is a "clandestine military project." Douste-Blazy said in a French TV interview (today / Thursday) no civilian nuclear program can explain Iran's nuclear activities. Iran's chief nuclear negotiator (Ali Larijani) responded by insisting that Tehran is not seeking a bomb.
He criticized what he called Western propaganda and said Iran is seeking civilian nuclear energy. Iran this week resumed small-scale uranium enrichment - a move it had threatened to take after the International Atomic Energy Agency decided earlier this month to refer its case to the U.N. Security Council.
Uranium enrichment is a process to produce fuel for nuclear reactors or atomic weapons. The Security Council is expected to discuss possible actions against Iran after it receives a report from I.A.E.A. chief Mohamed ElBaradei on March sixth.
