Israeli doctors say Prime Minister Ariel Sharon remains in critical, but stable condition following emergency surgery Saturday to remove parts of a damaged intestine.
Hadassah University Hospital officials said today (Sunday) Mr. Sharon was still in the intensive care unit.
Doctors removed a substantial portion of the prime minister's large intestine Saturday after spotting damage caused by a restricted blood flow to his digestive tract.
The 77-year-old Mr. Sharon suffered a massive stroke January fourth. He underwent several rounds of emergency surgery after the stroke, but has not regained consciousness.
Medical experts hold little hope for the Israeli leader's recovery.
Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is serving as interim prime minister, until national elections set for March 28th.
