A Palestinian militant was killed and two Israeli soldiers were wounded in a gunbattle in the West Bank town of Nablus early today (Tuesday).
Palestinian witnesses say the fighting broke out when Israeli soldiers surrounded a house and tried to force a wanted militant to surrender.
They say the dead man was a local commander of the Islamic Jihad militant group.
Hours earlier, an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip killed two members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades -- an armed wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah faction.
Meanwhile, in Cairo, leaders of the Palestinian militant group Hamas are discussing the formation of a new Palestinian government.
