일본 참의원은 3일 일제 강점기시절 임시수용소로 강제 격리된 한국과 대만 한센인들에게 보상을 인정하는 내용의 개정안을 승인했습니다.
이날 통과된 개정안은 당시 강제 격리된 430 여명의 한센병 환자 또는 생존자에게 각각 6만 8천달라를 지급하도록 명시하고 있습니다.
작년에 제정된 보상 관련법은 일본에 살고 있던 한센인뿐 아니라 당시 강제 격리된 모든 한센인들에게 보상금을 지급할 것을 요구하고 있습니다.
그러나 법 제정이후 일본 정부는 일본인 한센병 환자들만 보상 대상에 포함시킨 반면 외국인 환자들은 보상 대상에서 제외시켜 논란이 증폭돼 왔습니다.

Japan's parliament has approved compensation for former leprosy sufferers in Korea and Taiwan who were forced into remote camps while those nations were under Japanese rule.
The law enacted today provides 68 thousand dollars each to some 430 leprosy patients or their survivors.
A court ruled last year that compensation is required for all patients who were forcibly relocated, not only those living in Japan.
Japanese leprosy patients were already eligible for the compensation, but the government had previously turned down requests from overseas sufferers.
