국제원자력기구 (IAEA)는 2일 이사회를 열고 이란의 핵 계획에 대해 영국과 프랑스, 독일 세 나라로부터 보고를 받습니다.
이들 세 나라는 이란의 핵 활동에 대해 의구심을 제기하는 보고서 내용을 IAEA가 유엔 안보리에 회부할 것을 공식 요청했습니다. 이란 핵 문제가 안보리에 회부될 경우 안보리는 제재를 가할 수 있지만 앞서 채택된 결의안 초안은 3월 초 열리는 차기 IAEA 회의 이후에 관련 조처를 취하도록 했습니다.
안보리의 이같은 결의안은 이란 핵 문제에 대한 외교적 해결을 촉구해온 러시아와 중국의 입장을 반영한 것입니다.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has begun a two-day meeting in Vienna to hear the European case on Iran's nuclear program. The 35-nation I.A.E.A. board is discussing a European draft resolution that calls on the agency to forward to the United Nations Security Council key reports raising doubts about the nature of Iran's nuclear activity.
The Security Council can impose sanctions, but the draft resolution says any council action on Iran would be delayed until the next I.A.E.A. meeting in early March. That language is a concession to Russia and China, which have been urging a diplomatic resolution of the dispute.
Iran has threatened to resume full-scale uranium enrichment and curtail U.N. inspections of its nuclear sites if it is referred to the Security Council. The European Union and the United States accuse Tehran of secretly trying to build an atomic bomb. Iran denies the charge.
