The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries say it will keep producing oil at its current level, which is close to a 25-year high.
World oil prices declined slightly after today's (Tuesday's) announcement, with the cost of a barrel of oil for future delivery falling 27 cents (to 68 dollars, eight cents) in New York trading.
The OPEC action at its meeting in Vienna was widely anticipated by investors, who watch the cartel's actions closely because it provides more than one-third of the world's oil.
Iran also said it would not cut exports. Investors have been concerned that tensions over Iran's nuclear program might prompt the major oil exporter to slow or stop the flow of oil. Strong demand means that oil supplies are already tight, so supply disruptions can cause prices to surge.
