아사드 대통령은 아랍 법률가들에게 행한 연설에서 라피크 하리리 전 레바논 총리 암살에 대한 유엔의 조사를 지적하면서 시리아의 주권이 존중돼야 한다고 강조했습니다.
아사드 대통령은 자신에 대한 유엔 조사단의 두번째 면담 요구에 대해 구체적으로 언급하지 않았지만 시리아는 유엔이 아사드 대통령에게 공식적인 조사를 강요할 법적 근거는 없다는 입장입니다.
시리아는 하리리 전 총리 암살에 아무런 역할도 하지 않았다고 거듭 주장하고 있지만 유엔은 이미 몇 명의 시리아 고위 관리가 이 사건에 개입됐다고 밝힌 상태입니다.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad vowed Saturday not to bow to international pressure over Lebanon or the pace of reforms at home.
In a speech to Arab lawyers, Mr. Assad insisted his nation's sovereignty must be respected as the United Nations investigates the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
He did not specifically address a second interview request, but Syria maintains the U.N. has no legal basis to compel the president to submit to formal questioning.
Damascus has repeatedly denied any role in the assassination, but the U.N. has already implicated several top Syrian officials.
