Health officials in Turkey say two children who may have been infected by the deadly H5N1 strain of bird-flu virus are in critical condition.
Doctors are awaiting results of virus tests on the children -- 12-year-old Fatma Ozcan and her five-year-old brother, Muhammed -- but they say their condition has begun to deteriorate. They are being treated at a hospital in the city of Van, in eastern Turkey, where bird-flu infections have been confirmed in 18 human victims.
Three children among Turkey's bird-flu victims, all from the same family, died last week.
