이스라엘 당국은 하마스 소속 셰이크 모하메드 아부 티르 등 세 명이 예루살렘의 성지에서 집회를 가지려고 준비하다가 14일, 이스라엘 경찰에 구속됐다고 말했습니다.
한편, 이보다 몇 시간 앞서 이스라엘 각료회의는 오는 25일에 실시되는 팔레스타인 입법위원회 총선거에 동예루살렘 거주 팔레스타인인들의 투표참여를 허용하도록 결정했습니다.
이스라엘 당국은 그러나 하마스 등 과격단체 소속 후보들이 투표용지에 오르거나 그들의 선전물을 예루살렘에서 배포하는 것은 금지하고 있습니다.

Israeli police in Jerusalem have arrested the number two candidate on the militant Palestinian Hamas movement list for elections to the Palestinian parliament.
Authorities say Sheikh Mohammed Abu Tir and two other Palestinians were taken into Israeli custody today (Sunday) as they prepared to hold a rally at a site sacred to both Muslims and Jews.
The arrests came hours after Israel's Cabinet decided to allow Palestinians in East Jerusalem to vote in the January 25th poll. But the Cabinet banned candidates of Hamas and other armed groups from appearing on the ballot or in campaign literature distributed in the city.
Palestinian officials had threatened to postpone the election if Israel prevented East Jerusalem Arabs from participating.
Hamas, which has called for the destruction of Israel, is expected to make major gains against the ruling Fatah movement in the upcoming polls.
