사우디아라비아의 성지인 메카에서 발생한 건물 붕괴 사고의 희생자 수가 최소한 27명으로 늘어났습니다.
이슬람 순례자들이 머무는 이 건물은 5일 붕괴됐으며 사망자들은 대부분 튀니지와 아랍에미리트연방에서 온 순례자들이라고 목격자들은 전했습니다. 사망자 외에도 60여명이 부상을 입었습니다.
구조대원들은 기중기 등 장비를 동원해 건물 잔해 제거작업을 벌이고 있습니다.
사우디아라비아에는 현재 연례 성지행사인 하지를 맞아 백만명 가량의 이슬람 교도가 메카에 도착했으며, 하지가 시작되는 8일에는 2백만명으로 늘어날 전망입니다.

The death toll from a collapsed building in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia has risen to at least 27 as rescue workers search through the rubble for survivors.
Another 60 people were injured when the building, housing Muslim pilgrims, collapsed Thursday. Witnesses say many of the casualties were pilgrims from Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.
Rescue workers are using cranes and other equipment to sift through the rubble.
The building, which is used as a hostel during the hajj (pilgrimage), is near Mecca's Great Mosque -- Islam's holiest shrine. It was not immediately clear what caused the building to collapse.
About one million pilgrims have already arrived in Mecca for the annual hajj, but their numbers are expected to swell to more than two million by Sunday when the hajj begins.
