버마 정부가 민주주의로의 이행에 실패할 경우 이는 동남아시아 전역의 안전을 해치게 될 것이라고 하산 위라후다 인도네시아 외무장관이 말했습니다.
위라후다 장관은 6일 자카르타에서 행한 한 연설에서 버마는 민주개혁을 실행에 옮기지 않음으로써 동남아시아국가연합 (아세안)의 질서를 교란시키고 있다고 말했습니다.
아세안 국가들은 지난 12월 열린 정상회의에서 버마의 군사통치자들이 구체적인 민주화 조처를 취하고 가택연금된 아웅산 수지 씨등 민주지도자들을 석방하도록 요구하는 전례없는 성명을 발표했습니다.
버마 정부는 이에 대해 아세안 특사가 자국에 방문하면 민주회복을 위한 계획을 설명하겠다고 말했습니다.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda says Burma's failure to move toward democracy has hurt stability across Southeast Asia.
Speaking in Jakarta today (Friday), Mr. Wirajuda said Burma was disturbing the balance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations by not implementing democratic reforms.
At a summit in Kuala Lumpur last December, ASEAN nations made an unprecedented united call for Burma's military rulers to take concrete steps towards democracy, and to release pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest.
Burma has said it will explain its plan to restore democracy to the country when it hosts an upcoming ASEAN envoy.
In December, the Myanmar Times quoted Burmese Foreign Minister Nyan Win as saying his Malaysian counterpart, Syed Hamid Albar, will visit Burma as soon as this month.
