인도네시아 자바섬에 쏟아진 폭우로 산사태가 발생해 최소한 57명이 사망하고 약 200명이 실종됐습니다. 당국은 실종자 가운데 상당수가 사망한 것으로 보고 있습니다.
실종자 대부분은 4일 새벽 엄청난 양의 진흙과 돌에 묻힌 시제루크 마을 주민입니다. 자바 중부의 현장에 출동한 정부 관계자들은 안전하지 않은 도로 때문에 구조작업이 어려움을 겪고 있다고 말했습니다.
인도네시아는 장마철이 되면 홍수와 산사태가 흔히 발생하며 산사태는 대부분 불법 벌채가 원인입니다.

A landslide triggered by heavy rains on Indonesia's main island of Java has killed at least 14 people and left about 200 people missing and feared dead. Most of the missing are from the village of Sijeruk (in the Banjar Negara district), which was buried beneath tons of mud and rock early today (Wednesday).
Authorities on the scene (370 kilometers east of Jakarta) in Central Java say rescue efforts are being hampered by unsafe roads. Heavy rains led to landslides and flash floods in East Java on Monday, killing at least 57 people and leaving thousands homeless.
Floods and landslides are common in Indonesia at this time of year, during the rainy season. Many landslides are caused by illegal logging or land-clearing for farmland.
