국제 언론자유 감시단체인 국경없는 기자회는 2005년 한 해 언론인들에 대한 폭력이 늘어났다고 밝혔습니다.
프랑스에 본부를 둔 이 단체는 4일 발표한 연례 언론자유 보고서에서 지난 한 해 68명의 언론인과 언론 보조요원이 사망했다고 말했습니다.
이는 전년도와 같은 숫자지만 언론인에 대한 물리적 공격과 위협은 150건이 늘어난 1천3백건에 달했다고 이 단체는 말했습니다.
한편 국경없는 기자회는 현재 129명의 언론인과 언론보조 요원, 그리고 인터넷에서 반정부 운동을 펴는 70명이 수감돼 있다고 말했습니다. 기자회는 중국은 32명으로 가장 많은 언론인을 수감하고 있으며 다음이 쿠바로 24명이라고 밝혔습니다.

The media freedom group Reporters Without Borders says violence against journalists escalated in 2005.
In its annual Press Freedom report today (Wednesday), the French-based group says 68 journalists and media assistants were killed last year (63 journalists and 5 media assistants). That total is the same figure as 2004 (53 journalists and 15 media assistants), but physical attacks or threats against journalists rose to 13-hundred, an increase of about 150.
For the third consecutive year, Iraq was named the world's most dangerous country for journalists, with 29 journalists and assistants killed (24 journalists, 5 media assistants).
The group says violence against reporters increased in Africa, and attacks against journalists are almost daily occurrences in Bangladesh and Nepal.
Meanwhile, the group says 129 journalists and media assistants, and another 70 cyberdissidents, are languishing in prisons. The report says China again has the most journalists in detention (32), followed by Cuba (24).
