In response to U.S. statements supporting democracy in Hong Kong, a spokesman for China's foreign ministry says China will never allow any foreign interference in Hong Kong affairs.
On Friday, the official Xinhua news service said the spokesman, Qin Gang, was replying to comments made by U.S. State Department Spokesman Sean McCormick on Thursday.
Mr. McCormick said the people of Hong Kong should have a timetable for direct voting. Pro democracy lawmakers in Hong Kong have said they want a timetable that shows when citizens will be able to vote for their leaders.
China's spokesman said that Hong Kong is "China's Hong Kong," and there is no room for foreign interference.
According to Xinhua, Mr. Qin expressed strong dissatisfaction with the comments made by the U.S. spokesman.
