인도의 한 홍수 이재민 구호 캠프에서 압사 사고로 적어도 43명이 숨지고 수십명이 부상했다고 관계자들이 밝혔습니다.
이 압사 사고는 18일 타밀 나두 주 수도인 남부 도시, 첸나이에 있는 한 정부 학교에서 3천여명의 홍수 이재민들이 식량 쿠폰을 받기위해 몰려드는 바람에 발생했습니다.
경찰은 희생자들의 대부분이 여성들이었으며, 사망자의 수는 늘어날 것으로 보인다고 말하고 있습니다.

Officials in southern India say at least 43 people were trampled to death and dozens of other were injured in a stampede at a flood relief camp.
The incident occurred today (Sunday) at a government school in the southern city of Chennai (also known as Madras), the capital of Tamil Nadu state, where more than three-thousand people had gathered to collect food coupons.
Police say most of the victims were women, and the death toll is expected to rise.
