A group of experts is urging the United States to use programs once used to contain the former Soviet bloc's weapons threat in efforts to end the North Korean nuclear crisis.
A study by the experts, commissioned by the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, recommends a non-adversarial approach toward reducing North Korea's weapons of mass destruction.
The experts expressed confidence in discussing the study Friday that the United States and North Korea would eventually be able to resolve their differences in six-party talks aimed at ending Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program.
