영국에서 동성애자 부부도 이성 부부와 동등한 법적 권리를 누리도록 허용한 법률이 발효됨에 따라 5일부터 동성애자 부부들이 시민 동반자 등록을 시작했습니다.
작년에 의회에서 통과된 새로운 법률은 이성의 부부들과 마찬가지로 동성 부부들에게도 똑 같은 사회보장과 세금, 연금, 상속권을 부여하고 있습니다.
이날부터 등록이 시작됐지만, 15일간의 유예규정 때문에 동성애자들의 첫번째 결혼식은 북아일랜드에서는 12월 19일, 스코틀랜드에서는 12월 20일, 잉글랜드에서는 12월 21일에 거행될 예정입니다.
동성애자 결혼은 이미 네덜란드와 캐나다, 벨기에, 스페인에서 공식적으로 인정되고 있습니다.

Gay and lesbian couples in Britain began registering for civil partnerships Monday, as a new law came into effect giving same-sex couples the same legal rights as married heterosexuals.
The new law, passed last year, gives same-sex unions the same social security, tax, pension and inheritance rights given to married couples. The word "marriage"" does not appear in the law, but it was written to conform as closely as possible to a marriage contract.
Registration begins today (Monday), but the first marriage ceremonies -- subject to a 15-day waiting period -- will be December 19th in Northern Ireland, December 20th in Scotland, and December 21st in England.
Same-sex marriage has already been officially recognized in the Netherlands, Canada, Belgium, and Spain.
