아리엘 샤론 이스라엘 총리는 리쿠드당이 더이상 국가목표를 위해 이스라엘을 이끌어나갈 수 없다며 집권 리쿠드당을 탈당했습니다.
샤론 총리는 자신은 30년 전 이스라엘인들에게 희망을 주기 위해 리쿠드당 창당을 지원했지만 그같은 희망은 이제 더이상 존재하지 않는다고 말했습니다.
샤론 총리는 자신이 구성할 계획인 새 당은 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 사이에 영구적인 국경선을 정할 것이라면서 요르단강 서안의 점령지역에서 독자적으로 추가 철수할 계획이 없다고 말했습니다.
이스라엘은 며칠 안에 내년 3월 총선 일정을 발표할 예정입니다.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has quit the ruling Likud party, saying the party is no longer able to lead Israel to its national goals.
Speaking Monday evening, Mr. Sharon said he helped set up Likud three decades ago to provide hope to the Israeli people. He said that hope no longer exists.
He said the new party he plans to form will work to set permanent borders between Israel and the Palestinians. He also said he has no further plans for withdrawing unilaterally from the occupied West Bank as he did from the Gaza Strip earlier this year.
An elections date in March is expected to be announced within days.
Top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat called Mr. Sharon's resignation a "political volcano" and said it came as a result of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He called the resignation the most significant political development in Israel since 1967.
