Some 20-thousand people in South Korea's capital city have demonstrated against an upcoming Asia-Pacific summit, as senior officials hold preparatory talks.

Protesters in Seoul demanded greater labor rights, criticized the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum of deepening world poverty, and opposed President Bush's expected attendance at the event.

Korean officials said about 40-thousand police will provide security for Friday and Saturday's summit in the southern city of Busan and they expect protests to be peaceful.

Before the summit, senior officials are discussing proposals to save trade talks now stalled over agricultural subsidies and to increase cooperation against terrorism and bird flu. There is also a plan to test Asian airports for their vulnerability to terrorist attacks, particularly from shoulder-fired missiles.
