이라크 내 시리아 접경 근처에서 저항분자들을 근절하기 위한 이틀째 공격 작전이 전개되고 있는 가운데 6일 약 3천 5백명의 미군과 이라크군이 저항분자들과 교전을 벌였습니다.
미군 지휘관들은 연합군이 후세이바흐에서 소형 화기와 사제 폭탄 공격을 받았다고 말했습니다. 도널드 알스톤 장군은 미군과 이라크군 사망자는 나오지 않았으며 저항분자나 민간인 사상자에 관해서 아무런 정보도 갖고 있지 않다고 말했습니다.
연합군은 앞서 5일 유프라테스강 근처의 저항분자들의 근거지인 후세이바흐에 공습을 가했습니다. 미군 지휘관들은 후세이바흐가 이웃 나라 시리아에서 이라크로 들어오는 외국 저항분자들의 첫번째 기착지들 가운데 하나라고 말하고 있습니다.

About 35-hundred U.S. and Iraqi troops battled insurgents today (Sunday) in a town near the Syrian border, in the second day of an offensive aimed at uprooting insurgents from the region.
U.S. commanders said the coalition force was encountering small arms fire and homemade bombs in Husaybah. General Donald Alston said no U.S. or Iraqi forces have been killed, and said he had no information about insurgent or civilian casualties.
Coalition airstrikes hit what were described as insurgent strongpoints in the Euphrates river town on Saturday.
U.S. commanders say Husaybah is one of the first stops for foreign insurgents who enter Iraq from nearby Syria.
